Howdy! If you've landed on this page then you're after a way to learn and understand the Major & minor Scales/Keys and their Chords.
Don't worry, I've got you. 👍🏽
Here you'll find interactive tools to help you find the Notes in the Scale/Key, their Degree/Numeral (for the Number System) and the Chords of the Scale/Key (and what flavour they are: Major = Green, minor = Red and Diminished = Yellow).
For the more advanced (possibly insane) music nerd, you can also investigate the Notes and Chords of the Modes.
(At present I've only included the main Major and minors, I've not put in any super-exotic ones just to keep it simple).
How does it work? Pick a Note, pick Major or minor and the table will populate accordingly. It's that simple. Give it a go and see...
Major Scale Interval Pattern: W-W-H-W-W-W-H.
minor Scale Interval Pattern: W-H-W-W-H-W-W.
Major Scale Chord Pattern: M-m-m-M-M-m-dim
minor Scale Chord Pattern: m-dim-M-m-m-M-M
If you get confused or boil over with rage when you see B#, C♭, E# and F♭, then please see my post on Enharmonic Equivalents for more information. Hopefully it explains things nicely (with brief primer on how Major Scales work).
All the Major Scales are made up using the Interval Pattern: W-W-H-W-W-W-H (Whole/Half) or T-T-S-T-T-T-S (Tone/Semi-tone).
All the minor Scales are made up using the Interval Pattern: W-H-W-W-H-W-W or T-S-T-T-S-T-T.
The Modes are a tricky subject. Below you can select your Scale/Key and view all the Notes & Chords of both the Major & minors in both Relative (Relative to the Parent Scale/Key) and Parallel (each form of the Mode starts on the same Root Note).
