Living Colour

Biography

Living Colour is an American hard/funk/progressive rock band from New York City, formed in 1984.

The band consists of guitarist Vernon Reid, lead vocalist Corey Glover, drummer Will Calhoun and bassist Doug Wimbish who replaced Muzz Skillings in 1992. Their music is influenced by heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip hop, punk, and alternative rock. The band's lyrics range from the personal to the political, including social commentary on racism in the United States.

Living Colour has released six studio albums. The band rose to fame with their debut album Vivid in 1988. Although they scored several hits, Living Colour is best known for their signature song "Cult of Personality", which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1990 and has been consistently used as the entrance theme for professional wrestler CM Punk since 2011.

They were named Best New Artist at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, and won their second Grammy Award for their follow-up album Time's Up (1990).

Their third album, Stain (1993), was also well received by music critics. After disbanding in 1995, Living Colour reunited in late 2000, and has since released three more studio albums: Collideøscope (2003), The Chair in the Doorway (2009) and Shade (2017).

The band has been working on new material for the follow-up to Shade.

E Standard Tuning
This song is a classic Funk/Prog/Rock/Metal song. As a mixed race kid growing up playing bass and getting into metal in the late 80's and early 90's it was a revelation seeing a group of black musicians shredding this hard.

My tab for this might be a bit controversial as there are a good few out there but I think they're overcomplicating things.

Muzz Skillings is a shrewd player and like other smart bass players he understands the role and place of the bass, especially in a funk sense. As a result, after isolating the bass using some Ai stuff and cleaning it up I think what he's playing, while still difficult, is actually simpler than people think.

What's available here is a note for note of what I can hear on the isolated bass track from the 1988 studio recording. I hope you enjoy it. The 3/4 bits are fun but are like playing finger-twister!
